Made in America: Leadership Lessons from the World's Largest Retailer

This course explores leadership through the story of Walmart, one of the most successful companies of all time. Founded by Sam Walton in 1962, Walmart has grown into the world’s largest retailer, with over 2 million associates and operations in 19 countries. Few organizations offer a richer view of how leadership shapes decisions, people, and outcomes.

The course will be held in Bentonville, Arkansas, the global headquarters of Walmart. Students will hear directly from Walmart executives who have led teams through growth, crisis, and change. These sessions offer a rare opportunity to bring theory to life through the real stories of leaders who have experienced and overcome a variety of significant leadership challenges.

Every session is built to make you stronger as a leader. The course covers effective leadership qualities and behaviors, decision-making, team dynamics, influence, motivation, navigating difficult conversations, leading through change, and much more, all with a focus on preparing you to lead at the highest level. Self-assessments will reveal your leadership strengths and where you have room to grow. Group exercises will sharpen your skills. Walmart is our case study and living leadership laboratory, but the lessons reach far beyond business, preparing you to lead in any domain you choose. The course closes with a personal Leadership Development Plan that will help set you up for accelerated, sustained success in both life and career.
